Government Printing Office (GPO) work during the Federal Fiscal Year 2008 have been announced by Government Print Management, the leading representative of print suppliers to government in the United States. CHAMBERSBURG, PA—Monarch Litho reclaimed its spot as the top-earning Government Printing Office (GPO) vendor in 2007 with about $30.5 million in government contracted sales, according to the annual Top 50 GPO Vendors list compiled by e-LYNXX. Montebello, CA-based Monarch had posted top sales for three consecutive years before getting nudged out by NPC of Claysburg, PA, in 2006. NPC fell to third in 2007 at $20.8 million, having been edged out by Chicago-based RR Donnelley for second with $21.4 million in GPO work. Valassis, ADVO Settle, Merge LIVONIA, MI—After several months of acrimony, Valassis and ADVO have decided to patch their differences and merge. The sides have dropped their chancery court case and will move under one roof via a renegotiated $1.2 billion deal, at $33 per share for the outstanding common shares of ADVO stock. LOUISVILLE, KY—A new eight-unit, 38˝ MAN Roland Rotoman web offset press with autoplate and closed-loop color control is at the center of an $11 million capital expenditure initiative for Gateway Press. Gateway, which registered a tick under $40 million in sales for fiscal year 2005, is best known for its work with the Government Printing Office. Sheridan Shutters Capital City BERLIN, VT—Capital City Press' operations here are being discontinued by its parent company, The Sheridan Group, resulting in the loss of approximately 150 jobs. The printing of scientific, technical and medical journals, along with book printing, will be consolidated into other locations within the company. Much of the work will be handled by The Sheridan Press in Hanover, PA. Capital City employs 200 workers, and 45 of them—which comprise the Publications Services division—will reportedly be offered employment by Dartmouth Journal Services, another company in The Sheridan Group chain.
