The Ludwigsburg site of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its folding machines. In 1949, Kurt Stahl and Adolf I. Döpfert founded the company Stahl & Co. Maschinenfabrik Ludwigsburg. Shortly afterwards, engineer Kurt Stahl constructed and presented his first folding machine, while businessman Adolf I. Döpfert built up the sales side of the company.
LOS ANGELES—The printing community in Southern California has suffered a jolt with the loss of two very familiar names.

Four colors from two units
We have a Printmaster QM 46-2 and have tried on the odd occasion to print four-color process runs, with relatively pleasing results. However, we found a few issues.

Walsworth Publishing, Marceline, MO, has achieved an impressive level of productivity with its two new Speedmaster SM 102 8-color perfecting presses. Both presses have far surpassed its expectations. "We recently set an eight-hour, single-shift record of 400 plates on the Speedmaster 102," reported Mark Hatfield, Walsworth’s Vice President of Manufacturing Operations.
IT’S HARD not to automatically view everything through the frame of the current economic climate. In most cases, however, the business challenges companies are struggling with were preexisting conditions that have now been greatly amplified. The trend toward print buyers, at every level, cutting back their order quantities is a case in point.
