Heidelberg will be showcasing around 60 innovations under the motto “Discover HEI” in Hall 1 at drupa 2012. The main focus is on the launch of a completely new series of sheetfed offset presses under the name Speedmaster SX. This series combines the cutting-edge technology of existing product series in a new performance class that is tailored first and foremost to the requirements of commercial printing in order to meet the changed market requirements.

Southwest Precision Printers (SWP), Houston’s largest commercial printer, has purchased a new Heidelberg CD 102 sheetfed press, which will boost its production capacity by 50 percent. ”It’s imperative that we have the right equipment to meet our increasing customer demand,” says SWP owner and President Tim Tully.
“The purchase of the new 64" Heidelberg is a further testament to Annan & Bird’s commitment to answering our customers’ demands to improve quality, support brand integrity through repeat consistency, and shorten turn times, all while reducing the environmental impact of print,” said John Bird, president of Annan & Bird.
The Speedmaster CX 102 is “exactly the right press for us at exactly the right time,” says Thomas Löhnert, owner of Löhnert Druck in Markranstädt near Leipzig. This full-service print shop has been using a Speedmaster CX 102 five-color press with coating unit, which integrates the 1,000th printing unit, since the end of last year. The press is also the first of its kind in Saxony.
Heidelberg’s Saphira Bio Ink Series has achieved ISO 2846-1 conformance from Printing Industries of America (PIA). The ISO 2846-1 certification is the international standard used to determine the color and transparency conformance of four-color lithographic printing inks.
In the third quarter of its financial year, Heidelberg achieved a slightly positive result in operating activities and had stable sales. Sales in the first nine months amounted to €1.811 billion, 4 percent down on the previous year’s figure for the same period.
HardingPoorman has installed a POLAR P.A.C.E. 137XT fully automated cutting system in its recently expanded Indianapolis facility. “The new system has taken over the lion’s share of our commercial print cutting work, which includes anything and everything from finish trim to posters, signatures, and diecut sheets,” said Steve Anzalone, COO.
The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) has announced that Larry Kroll has been hired as its vice president of development. Kroll has a long history of activity in the industry and education, as well as involvement with PGSF.
