Over the past three months, some 700 customers from all over the world have paid a visit to Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg). During events at the Print Media Center in Heidelberg and Wiesloch-Walldorf, they have learned about future opportunities in the small-format sector, innovations in industrial packaging printing, and surface finishing options with Saphira consumables as well as new coating applications when printing in perfecting.

MENASHA, WI—High-end commercial printer Winnebago Color Press was shuttered on Monday, with some of its assets obtained by CCI/CoakleyTech of Hartland, WI. The company's 50 or so employees were informed of the closure during an afternoon meeting, a source familiar with the situation told Printing Impressions.
Phillips Printing in Nashville, TN, claims to have doubled its output and nearly tripled its capacity with four fewer employees on the production end after consolidating the majority of its consumables purchasing with Heidelberg USA.
When Proteus Packaging, a folding carton converter, became the first U.S. company to purchase and install a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 145 VLF press in 2009, it started something of a trend. That trend recently saw the firm install a 57” Dymatrix 145 diecutter with Heidelberg Logistics.
The printing solutions supplied by the company’s Linoprint business area are part of the new Heidelberg digital printing portfolio designed for cost-effective production of short print runs and individualized print products. Heidelberg is presenting the latest Linoprint solutions developed specifically for the packaging industry and consumer goods manufacturers at the interpack in Hall 11, booth E33.
Heidelberg has announced the following new prepress, press and postpress product installations by Phil Vedda & Sons Printing, Grand River Printing and Imaging, Original Impressions and Rose Press.
During the market forum on “New print applications for innovative print products,” Manfred Jurkewitz, head of research and development at Heidelberg, pinpointed printed organic electronics as one approach that could change the face of printing technology in the future.
“Although we had not anticipated purchasing another state-of-the art Speedmaster XL 105 12 months ago, we found we needed a second machine to keep up with customer demand, which has far exceeded our expectations,” said Diamond Packaging’s President Kirsten Werner.
