HP carefully selected a group of 23 same-sized printers from the region to bring in for its "Print Your Future" color inkjet web press event. The two-day excursion, held at the Burlington (MA) Marriott and the headquarters of host printer DS Graphics in Lowell, MA, came just two weeks before Christmas. That HP was still able to round up a captive audience at a time when printing companies and executives are preoccupied with end-of-year housekeeping speaks to the due diligence it performed in culling the invite list.
Last month, Printing Impressions and its sister publications, Package Printing and In-plant Graphics, were invited to visit Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG's headquarters to talk with executives and tour the company's massive sheetfed press manufacturing facility in nearby Wiesloch-Walldorf. Among the many highlights of the trip, journalists met with both outgoing CEO Bernhard Schreier and new CEO Dr. Gerold Linzbach.

HP announced the opening of an 118,000-sq.ft. ink manufacturing plant in Kiryat Gat, Israel. The plant will produce ink for the new generation of HP Indigo digital presses announced in May and is the first industrial building in Israel built to LEED standards.

Interquest’s Digital Printing in Government and Higher Education Forum, which was hosted by the Government Printing Office in Washington DC, drew nearly 120 attendees—20 percent more than the 2011 forum. “In these challenging and exciting times, our attendees value the opportunity to learn from one another and find answers to the right balance of communication media as well as the role digital printing adds to the mix,” said Gilles Biscos, president of Interquest.
Dscoop (Digital Solutions Cooperative) proudly held its first EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) conference earlier this month. “Print United” drew more than 500 attendees and offered three learning tracks. Additionally, a sold-out solutions showcase was regarded by all as a resounding success.
Courier’s revenues in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2012 totaled $77.1 million, up 5 percent from $73.7 million in last year’s fourth quarter. Its net income was $5.7 million, compared to $6.4 million in 2011. “It was a year of strong growth at Courier Digital Solutions, where sales increased 48 percent in response to escalating demand for college textbooks customized to individual course requirements and schedules,” said Courier Chairman and CEO James F. Conway III.
As demand for shorter runs of books continued to increase, Sheridan Books’ management realized the company needed to integrate digital production in order to meet customers’ requirements. Its new MGI Meteor DP8700 XL complements an HP T-360 inkjet web press.
