Komori America
At drupa 2012, Komori Corp. will demonstrate a variety of new solutions designed to improve pressroom efficiency, and help printers meet the global demands of high quality, enhanced productivity and speedy job cycle times. Under the banner “Komori OnDemand,” the company’s stand will demonstrate nine different printing presses.
Presentations by Komori, Goss, Screen and Hybrid Software headlined the third, and final, day of the official drupa 2012 International Media Conference, with the four exhibitors previewing their plans for the international printing trade show.
Konica Minolta will supply to Komori the bizhub PRESS series, centered on the bizhub PRESS C8000 digital printing system, for sale in the four regions of Japan, the United States, Europe and China. Additionally, beginning in May 2012, Konica Minolta will supply Komori with the product series on an OEM basis in those four regions.
Professional Printing Center, a full-service commercial printer located in Chesapeake, VA, has installed its fourth Komori press, a five-color Lithrone S40 with advanced interface (AI) software. “We expanded our services over the last two years, so a higher level of productivity was important to us for a number of reasons,” said Brian Ward, president of Professional Printing Center.
The Komori sheetfed press will be ready for live production by late January, adding to Corporate Press’ ability to meet customers needs for medium- to long-run publications, direct mail components, newsletters, books, brochures and more. “We feel the addition of the Komori 540 SP will complement our diversification into digital printing technology,” says Mike Marcian, CEO and Chairman.
Consolidated Press in Seattle has installed a six-color Komori Lithrone SX40 with the new H-UV curing system. Owners Robert Brown and Gary Stone see the new press and UV technology as an opportunity for the company to expand its capabilities when it comes to special effects and coating techniques.
Offset press output still comprises 90 percent of the printing done, by some accounts, but you wouldn’t know it based on all the attention given to digital inkjet- and toner-based devices at Graph Expo. Lithographic press manufacturers aren’t standing still, however.
Best Graphics has announced a sales and distribution partnership agreement with Komori America to represent their Itoh cutting systems nationwide. The companies will jointly sell the Itoh line exclusively in North America.
Komori has invested significant R&D into developing its new “OffsetOnDemand” concept, which is based on a completely new model that maintains the high quality and high productivity of offset print while providing a competitive edge with ultra-short runs and quick turnaround work.
