Sun Chemical Plant Undergoes $7.2M Expansion ST. CHARLES, IL—Sun Chemical is working on a expansion of its manufacturing facility and laboratories here. The $7.2 million project will add nearly 32,000 square feet, bringing the plant to 90,000 square feet. The building will include ink manufacturing operations, expanded offices, a warehouse and a new laboratory. When it is completed in April 2004, the facility will house 141 employees. At this plant, the company also plans to combine the operations of its Chicago-area Clearing plant, as well as Kohl and Madden's facility in Elk Grove Village, IL. Quebecor First in USPS Program MONTREAL—Quebecor World's Trenton, NJ, Mailing Center has been authorized by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to participate in the new Periodical Co-palletization Program. Quebecor World reportedly is the first company to be granted authorization by the USPS for this new program. Participation in the program results in additional postage discounts for mail pieces that migrate from sack to pallet containers. Presently, Quebecor World's Trenton Mailing Center co-mails more than 80 publications and supplemental mailings. Label Stock Vendors Under Investigation

WASHINGTON, DC—Several of the major label stock vendors are reportedly under investigation for price fixing by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Under investigation are Avery Dennison, Bemis, Morgan Adhesives (MACtac), Raflatac and UPM-Kymmene. The DOJ is trying to determine if the companies raised, fixed and maintained the prices of self-adhesive label stock from January 1, 1999, to the present. News of the investigation and suit began back in April when Avery announced that the DOJ had begun a criminal investigation into competitive prices in the label stock industry and would shortly subpoena the company in connection with that investigation.
