LOS ANGELES—Doug Rawson, founder and CEO of large-format packaging printer Superior Lithographics, has been named 2011 Executive of the Year by the Printing Industries Association of Southern California (PIASC). The award recognizes Rawson's contributions to the industry as a longtime member of the PIASC board, as well as his innovation in developing the Los Angeles-based company.

The Lightweight Paper Performance Package for the Roland 700 series is the result of extensive research and field tests and includes numerous technical advancements focusing on the press feeder, infeed, delivery and antistatic equipment. The performance package can increase production output by 25 percent or more.
As previously announced, the Small Newspaper Presses business unit (Plauen, Germany) will be merged with the Large Newspaper Presses business unit (Augsburg, Germany) to form a Newspaper Printing Systems business unit under a single management structure.
OFFENBACH, GERMANY—manroland AG and the works council at the press manufacturer have agreed on a "reconciliation of interests and a social plan" that will see a reduction of about 500 jobs combined at manroland plants in Augsburg, Offenbach and Plauen, Germany, by the end of 2012. As part of the agreement, another 300 employees will be transferred to its new business unit, manroland Industrial Services, which is slated to kick off Jan. 1.
Services for external production have posted an approximately 10 percent increase in orders in 2010 compared to the previous year. Companies from the mechanical engineering, engine, vehicle manufacturing and energy technology industries rely on manroland’s manufacturing expertise at its locations in Augsburg, Offenbach and Plauen, Germany.
