The presses are good. The substrates are good. The software is good. And, as Cathy Cartolano, VP of sales and technical services at Mitsubishi Imaging (MPM), says, image quality is "scary close" to offset. So why doesn't continuous-feed inkjet dominate the market?
At GRAPH EXPO 2012, Mitsubishi Imaging (MPM) will show a number of new products for commercial printers, such as the chem-free Violet DigiPlater VDP-CF3070 CtP platesetter; and an Eco-friendly Thermal DigiPlate Processless CtP System for two-up printers. Also introduced will be a specialty paper for high-speed, continuous-feed color inkjet printing, as well as digital papers for HP Indigo digital offset presses.
Mitsubishi Imaging will be hosting an Open House Customer Event Day for small-format printers on Thursday, March 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its Demonstration and Training Center in Rye, NY. Plates from the Thermal DigiPlate chemistry-free CTP system will be run on the BaumPrint 18 automated small-format press during the open house.
At Dscoop7, Mitsubishi Imaging will feature DP Series Specialty Media for use with HP Indigo presses in Booth 604. Samples of DP Series metallic and luster finishes will be available in the Mitsubishi exhibit.

Paper manufacturers have adopted several strategies to optimize coated and uncoated stocks for running on the emerging array of high-speed, continuous-feed, color inkjet presses. While some papers may need to be fine-tuned to run on individual brands of presses, an additional surface treatment may also be required with certain paper/press combinations, especially coated stocks.
