Printing Industries of America proudly announces the recipients of the 2008 Best Workplace in the Americas Awards. A total of 51 graphic arts companies, both Printing Industries of America members and non-members, were selected by a committee of distinguished Human Resource experts from within the industry. The program is designed to recognize graphic arts companies for outstanding human relations efforts that contribute to a successful workplace.

Valassis, ADVO Settle, Merge LIVONIA, MI—After several months of acrimony, Valassis and ADVO have decided to patch their differences and merge. The sides have dropped their chancery court case and will move under one roof via a renegotiated $1.2 billion deal, at $33 per share for the outstanding common shares of ADVO stock. MORRISTOWN, TN—Web printer Morrison Communications has purchased American Graphics, a sheetfed printer based in Sevierville, TN. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.Brian Bashore, owner of American Graphics, will join Morrison Communications as a senior account representative. American Graphics’ equipment will be moved into Morrison’s facility located here.
Look at a copy of this magazine from 10, 15 or 20 years ago. Some of the printing company names ring a bell, albeit vaguely. This one merged a few years back, that one is now part of Consolidated Graphics, another one filed for bankruptcy and was liquidated. Other companies change their names. Many more just fade away.
