Heidelberg has announced the following new prepress, press and postpress product installations by Carded Graphics, Precision Graphics of Oregon, Chippewa Graphics, Fidelity Printing and North Star Printing. Carded Graphics became the first U.S. printer to install Heidelberg’s internally integrated Prinect Inspection Control visual inspection system.
Stitch in Time Saves Nine NORWELL, MA—Smith Print, a full-service commercial printer in the greater Boston area, recently installed a Vijuk 321-T saddlestitcher equipped with six pockets plus cover feeder. The new stitcher was sold and will be serviced locally by Pasquariello Graphics. Frank Stanley, bindery foreman, and Tom Plourde, lead bindery operator, were involved in the final decision-making process and worked closely with Vijuk technicians during the installation and operational training. Stitchers Star at Muller Martini Open House HAUPPAUGE, NY—Nearly three dozen print production businesses, including printing and binding companies of different sizes, recently attended a saddlestitching open house hosted by Muller Martini. The event, entitled “First to the Finish: Leading-Edge Saddlestitching Solutions for Maximum Automation,” was held here at Muller’s Long Island headquarters. Open house attendees viewed live demonstrations of three finishing machines geared toward the middle-performance segment. Demonstrated were a BravoPlus saddlestitcher with AMRYS (Automatic Make-Ready System), a BravoPlus T stitcher with partial AMRYS and a Presto stitcher. The trade printer does $14 million in annual sales. Bobst Providing Bindery Direction ROSELAND, NJ—Intrigued by barbecues under the stars, a car show and rally—and yes, let’s not forget binding and finishing gear—roughly 450 people from 171 different plants made their way here for the Direction ’06 Open House sponsored by Bobst Group USA. The show, held September 21-26 at Bobst’s Demonstration and Training Center, showcased the company’s folding carton and commercial printing solutions for customers and prospects alike. A total of nine Bobst technologies were on display. On the commercial printing end, diecutters such as the SPanthera 106-LER, SPeria 106-E and the SPrintera 145-PER drew attention from visitors, along with the SPeria Foilmaster 102. Jerry
New Press Heats Up Southwestern Printer PHOENIX—Cereus Graphics has installed a new Komori Lithrone S40 sheetfed offset press. Cereus reportedly is the second printing company in the nation to begin operating the newly designed, 40˝ press after its Graph Expo introduction last fall. Alabama ADAMSVILLE—Precision Graphics has installed a five-color Komori Lithrone 40. arizona PHOENIX—A two-color, 17x22˝ Sakurai 258EPII perfector has been installed by the Arizona Department of Transportation. arkansas LITTLE ROCK—Magna IV has purchased two Model 3F sheetfed presses from Mitsubishi Lithographic Presses. The new 40˝ presses—a six-color with coater and extended delivery and a two-color—joined an existing six-color Model 3F.
