Quad/Graphics Inc. and Courier Corp. jointly announced a definitive agreement by which Quad/Graphics will acquire Courier, a leading innovator in book manufacturing, publishing and content management. Upon closing of the transaction, James F. Conway III will join Quad/Graphics as president of the Book Division. As part of Quad/Graphics' newly announced three-year strategy to transform its book platform to give publishers a full range of options for producing and delivering books on demand, the company plans to invest in 20 or more HP high-speed color digital web presses, front-end workflow solutions for accepting orders and putting them immediately into production; and back-end integrated systems for finishing, distribution and fulfillment.

A mid-morning fire at the Quad/Graphics facility at the 4000 block of Lower Valley Road in Atglen, PA, was reported yesterday. Production was halted as employees were evacuated from the building. There were no reports of injuries, according to the Daily Local News.
