Quad/Graphics is Confident in Its Ability to Integrate Acquisitions, Says Joel Quadracci

After acquiring nine rival printing companies in the last four years, and shuttering over 20 older and inefficient printing facilities in the same period, Quad/Graphics Inc. on Wednesday said it might not be finished yet with its reinvention.

Asked during an investor conference call if Quad planned additional acquisitions, Chief Executive Joel Quadracci replied: "We're always looking, but again, we're pretty disciplined about it. A company has to be a good strategic fit."

Two MN Counties Will Lose $24M in Labor Income When Quad/Graphics' St. Cloud Plant Closes

The closure of Quad/Graphics, which will come in the next couple of weeks and put 280 people out of work, is expected to have a ripple effect that will result in the total loss of 475 jobs.

The loss of those jobs equates to almost $73 million in sales and more than $24 million in labor income annually in Benton and Stearns counties.

Those are the findings of an economic emergency report jointly prepared by University of Minnesota Extension and the St. Cloud State University School of Public Affairs Research.

Constructing PDF files properly has become critical to production efficiency. Poorly constructed PDF files can impact print service providers in two ways. Firstly, the additional processing they require slows down the digital press, reducing the return on investment (ROI) and disrupting production schedules that are typically tight, particularly for variable data direct mail and transactional printing. Secondly, they can make the DFE more expensive because, to expand the processing capability, the press vendor builds in more hardware than would be necessary if all jobs were well-constructed.

Art Festival Dedicated to Betty Quadracci, Quad/Graphics Co-Founder

The Lakefront Festival of Art on Milwaukee's lakefront this weekend drew thousands of people despite the chilly and foggy weather.

This year's festival was dedicated to long-time Milwaukee Art Museum supporter Betty Quadracci, a co-founder of Sussex-based Quad/Graphics Inc., who died Dec. 9, 2013.

She and her husband, Harry Quadracci, spearheaded the major fundraising effort to help finance the Santiago Calatrava-designed addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum with a $10 million matching donation. The soaring addition now bears their name—the Quadracci Pavilion.
