MONTREAL—Transcontinental Inc. announced that, since January, it has renewed and expanded six multiyear agreements valued at more than C$1.5 billion in revenues with major Canadian retail customers in the food, hardware, consumer goods and pharmaceutical verticals.

EFFINGHAM, IL—QuadDirect, a division of Quad/Graphics Inc., is setting new records in direct mail production and distribution savings at its facility here following a multimillion-dollar investment in new commingling mailing and in-line manufacturing equipment and systems.
The year-long expansion project—including installation of two additional high-speed letter sorters for commingling operations—has helped make the 579,000-square-foot facility in Effingham, IL, a direct mail powerhouse in Quad’s expanding direct mail platform.
Quad/Graphics’ net sales for the first quarter of 2012 totaled $990 million vs. $1.02 billion for the same quarter in 2011. The company’s net earnings attributable to common shareholders totaled $47.4 million, compared to a net loss of $7.3 million.
Quad/Graphics has renewed its exclusive retail insert and catalog printing business with OfficeMax Inc., and has added significant direct mail volume in a new multiyear agreement. Total revenues from the long-time customer are expected to grow approximately 20 percent with additional related freight logistics and in-store signage business.
RIPON, WI—Andy Lyke, president of Ripon Printers, has been named the 2012 recipient of the Harry V. Quadracci VISION Award, the Web Offset Association and Printing Industries of America announced. Lyke will be honored during the Offset & Beyond Conference to be held June 4-6 at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at The Arch in St. Louis.

Smaller cash bonus payouts contributed to a drop in overall compensation for Quad/Graphics Inc. chairman, president and CEO Joel Quadracci, according to a new federal regulatory filing. Quadracci’s overall compensation dipped about 25 percent to about $4.2 million in 2011, compared with $5.5 million in 2010, a proxy statement filed by the Sussex-based commercial printer with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commissions showed.
Quadracci earned a salary of $975,000 in 2011, compared with $932,000 the prior year. However, cash bonuses, including discretionary and performance-based payouts, to Quadracci fell to $399,750 for 2011, compared with about $1.3 million in 2010.
