Press control technology provider QuadTech will showcase an assortment of groundbreaking color control and inspection innovations that will help printers to achieve consistent quality, reduce waste and improve profit margins. The new technologies enhance the company’s performance-proven, industry-leading collection of press control solutions. All will be on display at drupa in Hall 17, Stand A10.
Quad/Graphics’ new Goss Sunday 2000 web press will provide marketers with new inline direct-mail solutions that will condense cycle times and improve one-to-one targeting. This investment represents the latest phase of the printer’s $40 million capital spending plan for QuadDirect.
The agreement allows Baum to manufacture and distribute the full range of QuadTech hopper loaders and conveyors under the Baum label outside of the Quad/Graphics group of companies. Baum will also be the manufacturer of QuadTech hopper loaders and conveyors for use within the Quad/Graphics group of companies.
Beginning with a $110,000 grant from the Dow Jones Foundation, Manugraph DGM provided the four units added to the original press donated by Goss. Also donated were a Baldwin spray dampening system, Quad Tech register control and MEGTEC infeed and splicer.
In early April, Q.I. Press Controls defeated Quad/Tech's request for a preliminary injunction in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
The patent covers positioning of an imaging device and is the third such action against QIPC by QuadTech.
QuadTech has asked the court to expand the action to include QIPC's Intelligent Register System (IRS) and Intelligent Density System (IDS).
In announcing the deal, executives estimated that the combination will result in at least $225 million in annual savings within 24 months.
This deal may be exciting from the merged balance sheet and even superficial marketing perspectives. However, Quad’s operations team has never ever had this kind of a challenge to boot strap a printer of this size before.
