Sells Printing Co. has filed a mass layoff notice impacting about 67 workers at its New Berlin (WI) operations. In a letter to the state Department of Workforce Development, the company said: “We presently anticipate that 55 SPC employees will be permanently laid off on June 22, 2012. In addition, SPC intends to permanently layoff one employee on June 13, 2012, five employees on Sept. 28, 2012, and six employees on Dec. 31, 2012.”

RIPON, WI—Ripon Printers announced it had permanently laid off 28 employees last Monday, about 10 percent of its workforce, Ripon Press reported. Production workers and office personnel were impacted by the reductions. The cuts were reportedly made to bring worker rolls more in line with Ripon Printing’s current annual sales volume of $35 million.
Ripon Printers laid off about 10 percent of its workforce Monday. The 28 layoffs—reducing the commercial printing firm’s staffing to about 240—are permanent. Production workers as well as office staff were affected by the cuts.
“We are saddened that we have had to say good-bye to some very capable, talented, experienced friends and co-workers,” company President Andy Lyke said.
In a memo to employees, Lyke explained that the company’s sales have been down over the past three years due to the recession and retrenchment within the printing industry.
