More than 2,000 enthusiastic HP users packed the auditorium at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville, TN last month for the opening of the eighth annual Dscoop conference. The three-day meeting included scores of educational sessions geared toward HP users, as well as an exhibit area with nearly 100 partners showing equipment and software designed to work with HP equipment.

Classic Graphics, Charlotte, NC, is one of the largest commercial printers in the city. It recently purchased a Rollem Jetstream to produce price cards for a large retail store. The Jetstream takes a 16-up sheet of cards, applies two-sided tape strips followed by XY cuts converting the sheet into four streams of finished products.
FedEx in Kent, WA, an office shipping center that supports other FedEx branch offices, has installed a Rollem PB-15 Automated Drill. The site will use the drill to produce variable binders with a variety of hole patterns, including three-ring, Wire-o, spiral binding, etc.
The VOD, Variable Output Delivery, is a smart batch-delivery system ideally suited for varying size runs requiring automated separation of products. The unit visually recognizes and separates orders from within large print runs.
H-E-B Grocery Corp. in San Antonio, TX, has purchased a Rollem 2D Finisher with the new VOD delivery to produce large volumes of grocery shelf tags. The 2D Rollaway systems perform bi-directional cutting and perforating of multiple-up store tags. The VOD system, which is equipped with optical recognition, separates the tags for easy delivery and handling. This automation streamlines the finishing and delivery process of store shelf tags.

For over two decades Dayton Mailing Services, Inc. has been helping clients maintain a one-to-one relationship with their customers. Recently, the company installed a Rollem Jetstream two-directional slitting, scoring and perforating system. The Rollem was installed and runs in-line with their HP Indigo press to automate their print to finishing function.
Introduced at Graph Expo, the new four-color Meteor DP8700 multi-substrate digital press from MGI Digital Graphic Technology, supports up to a 13x40˝ sheet (13x47˝ with manual bypass) and prints up to 71 ppm (letter-size) with a maximum 3,600 dpi resolution.

The transition to digital printing is creeping into every corner of the in-plant market. Even the small in-plant at Grace Community Church, in Arleta, CA, has seen the change. “More and more of the press work has gone to digital over the last two years,” remarks Charles Yamshak, who runs the church’s print shop, with one part-time assistant.
