RRD Reports $849M Loss; to Offer Senior Notes

CHICAGO—RR Donnelley reported a 2012 fourth-quarter net loss attributable to common shareholders of $849 million, or $4.70 per diluted share, on net sales of $2.7 billion compared to a net loss of $326.7 million, or $1.78 per diluted share, on net sales of $2.7 billion in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Martin County's Elliott Museum Announces $10 Million Donation

The Elliott Museum board of directors announced Wednesday evening a donation valued at $10 million from the Elliott R. Donnelley family, the largest gift in the museum’s 53-year history and believed to be the largest single gift ever in Martin County.

The announcement came during a donor appreciation event previewing the upcoming grand opening of the 48,000-square-foot, environmentally friendly museum Sunday after a $20 million reconstruction project.

RR Donnelley Closing Appleton-area Plant

Chicago-based printing giant RR Donnelley will close its printing facility at W6545 Quality Drive in Greenville (WI) before the end of April. The company said in a WARN notice filed with the state Department of Workforce Development on Monday the move will affect 47 jobs.

Direct mail is still considered the marketing channel of choice by a vast number of marketers across verticals ranging from telecom and utilities to nonprofit, publishing and financial services. According to the Direct Marketing Association's “2012 Response Rate Report,” the rates for letter-sized direct mail (3.4 percent) were 30 times higher than those for email (0.12 percent). The belief that direct mail is dead or dying will have to be suspended for the time being.
