CHICAGO—RR Donnelley has acquired New York-based Sequence Personal, a provider of proprietary software that enables readers to select relevant content to be digitally produced as specialized publications. Focused originally on the creation of individualized medical journals with targeted advertising, Sequence has expanded its technology to enable custom publishing across a broad variety of verticals.
LibreDigital is a leading provider of digital content distribution, e-reading software, content conversion, data analytics and business intelligence services to book, magazine and newspaper publishers, as well as to e-reader device providers. “With this acquisition we uniquely position RR Donnelley to support publishers and other customers with capabilities that include physical and digital production and distribution,” stated John Paloian, RR Donnelley’s chief operating officer.

Donnelley will help support Herbalife’s global branding efforts with consistent messaging and quality tools for its independent distributors who do business in 76 countries. It will coordinate the production of a comprehensive array of products, including catalogs, magazines, commercial and digital printing, forms, labels and event marketing materials.
Donnelley had second-quarter net earnings of $12.2 million on net sales of $2.6 billion, compared to $88.8 million on net sales of $2.4 billion in the second quarter of 2010. Non-GAAP net earnings totaled $105.6 million vs. $99.5 million in 2010. “Our platform, like our customers, felt the economic challenges during the second quarter,” said Thomas J. Quinlan III, RR Donnelley’s president and CEO.

CHICAGO—RR Donnelley has introduced its CustomPoint Solutions Group, comprising a suite of content creation, management and delivery services designed to help customers increase revenues and compress costs. Industry veteran Ann Marie Bushell, who most recently served as RR Donnelley’s executive vice president of marketing, was named group president.
Of the more than 1,371 print suppliers that obtained GPO jobs during the second quarter, RR Donnelly won the most work—$17,959,441. Rounding out the top five were NPC Inc. ($4,924,688), Gateway Press ($4,446,410), Monarch Litho ($3,114,990) and SourceLink ($2,488,361).
