MONTREAL—Transcontinental Inc. announced that it will be closing its Transcontinental Concord printing plant in Concord, Ontario, and its Transcontinental Edmonton printing plant in Edmonton at the end of December.
Transcontinental Inc. will be closing its Transcontinental Concord printing plant at 89 Connie Crescent in Concord, Ontario, and its Transcontinental Edmonton printing plant at 18,130, 114th Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta, at the end of December 2014. The reorganization will result in a total of 120 layoffs.
Transcontinental Inc. is ceasing publication of 20 local Quebec weeklies in a reorganization of its weekly newspaper business. The move will result in the layoff of about 80 employees.

Transcontinental Inc. announced that it has priced an offering of $250 million aggregate principal amount of 3.897 percent senior unsecured notes due in 2019. Significant transactions were announced throughout the spectrum of packaging technologies in March, from the basics—paper making for packaging products, to the sophisticated—global management of brand identity at multiple print providers across the globe, many using different printing technologies.
One way to move into packaging is to buy your way in. Transcontinental did exactly that by acquiring flexible packaging printer Capri Packaging. Although the full details of the transaction were not made public, based on its stated goal to jump into flexible packaging, the acquisition looks like a smart deal for Transcontinental.
