BALTIMORE—Vertis Communications closed its Manchester Township, PA, facility on Jan. 15, catching many of the 180 people who lost their jobs completely off guard. The work will be shifted to other locations within the Vertis chain, according to the York Daily Record.
The plant, with its roughly 180 workers, produced advertising inserts and other related products for retailers, newspapers and consumer services companies.

Midnight will not toll for the former American Color Graphics (ACG)printing plant in Medina, OH, which had been scheduled to be shut down this summer. According to the Akron Beacon Journal, parent company Vertis Communications felt that changing business conditions warranted allowing the facility to stay open through the middle of 2010.
Mike DuBose’s two-year stint as CEO of Vertis Communications came to an end with his January 1 resignation. The company has named Stephen Dyott as vice chairman and Alex Sorokin as interim president. DuBose presided over the acquisition of American Color Graphics (ACG), as well as Vertis’ reorganizational bankruptcy. Dyott, who previously served as ACG’s chairman/CEO, will serve as a senior advisor to the board. Vertis has hired an executive search firm to assist in securing a permanent CEO.
SAN ANTONIO, TX—Vertis Communications, of Baltimore, is consolidating some operations, which is prompting the closure of its San Antonio advertising insert printing facility, the San Antonio Business Journal reported. The move impacts approximately 90 employees. The company is said to be providing long-time employees with extended financial support and is encouraging affected employees to seek employment elsewhere within the Vertis organization.
