Xerox Announces Roughly 500 Layoffs in NC

Xerox Corp. is closing part of a call center operation in North Carolina that employs roughly 500. According to the Connecticut-based printing and business services giant, the affected Cary, NC, call center jobs will be eliminated effect Nov. 14, but the company plans to place more than half those workers within other Xerox operations there.

Xerox said separation packages will be provided to those who qualify. Xerox is one of the Rochester area’s largest employers with roughly 6,300 workers locally.

Computers are part of everything now—our phones, cars, refrigerators—and the age of wearable electronics is not that far off. One of the technologies that's making those advances possible is flexible electronics, and one of the researchers on the forefront of that frontier is Mandakini Kanungo, a research scientist at the Xerox Research Center in Webster.
