MEMPHIS, TN—International Paper announced that distribution solutions businesses xpedx and Unisource Worldwide will merge under the terms of a definitive agreement that will result in the creation of a new publicly traded company. The agreements providing for the combination of the two businesses were signed by International Paper, parent company of xpedx, and by UWW Holdings, the holding company that owns Unisource and is owned by an affiliate of Bain Capital and by Georgia-Pacific, as well as certain of their affiliates.

xpedx and Unisource Worldwide will merge under the terms of a definitive agreement that will result in the creation of a new publicly traded company. The agreements providing for the combination of the two businesses were signed by International Paper, parent company of xpedx, and by UWW Holdings.

Earning the ENERGY STAR designation at its Middletown, CT, facility was one of several sustainability goals that xpedx achieved this year. The ENERGY STAR designation is given to buildings scoring in the top 25 percent for energy efficiency, based on the EPA's energy performance rating system.

The xpedx site in Fairfield, OH, received two Green Globes for the Continual Improvement of Existing Buildings certification based on a comprehensive evaluation of its environmental performance across six assessment areas.

More than 900 printers had the opportunity to learn more about xpedx's wide-format printing strategies and equipment, during xpedx's 14-city Wide Format Solutions Summits held at various host sites in the United States.

Building on this year’s SGIA Expo theme of “The Full Spectrum of Specialty Imaging Technology and Equipment,” xpedx will feature a large collection of substrates and equipment for digital and wide-format printing.

At the SGIA Expo to be held October 23-25 in Orlando, FL, Esko will introduce a new Kongsberg digital finishing platform when it demonstrates the Kongsberg C64 cutting table. The company will also display its new i-cut Production Console software interface for operating Kongsberg tables.

xpedx has earned the ENERGY STAR designation at its Roanoke, VA, and El Paso, TX, locations. Both facilities now meet strict energy performance standards, use less energy, are less expensive to operate and cause fewer greenhouse gas emissions than peer facilities.
