How often do you check your emails on holiday?
One print salesperson I met recently admitted to me that he can't bear to stop checking his emails when he was on holiday. He always checks his cellphone at least three times a day.
As a result, he never really gets to relax. And he's usually in big trouble with his wife!
Holidays are for relaxing.
Many of us probably sneak the odd look at our emails, just to have peace of mind. But I always make sure that I put family and enjoyment first when I'm on holiday.
As a result, I find that my brain relaxes down. It feels clear of all the normal day-to-day worries.
This does't mean that I stop thinking about work completely.
Once my brain has relaxed, I find that I have more time to think about strategic issues. I make sure that I have plenty of time not thinking about work. But I also find that I get the odd moment to think about work issues that I never normally get the chance to consider.
It's also a good chance to read new ideas about work issues. I've included one idea at the bottom of this post.
Just make sure you take some time out on holiday as well!
