As Donald Trump would say, digital print is "HUUGE!" There are more than enough offerings on both the toner and inkjet side. What has been missing (until now) is a scientific and objective method to accurately measure the performance of a particular press. That ability is finally here in the form of Image Test Labs.
Image Test Labs (a division of Technology Watch) was founded by well-known industry scientist and inventor Henry Freedman, along with two other partners. Henry has had a long and varied career, and his list of consulting clients is exceptional, with industry leaders such as Xerox, EFI, Kodak and 3M among them. Their goal was to provide an independent method of evaluating the performance of a digital press, grading the full range of its printing capabilities.
Somewhat like a simple blood test, submitting a printed PDF page to Image Test Labs will yield a very "in-depth" analysis of how your particular printer scores. Subsets of color, text, color registration and more are individually graded in the report. Not only is the report detailed, but the cost is less than $500, a pittance when one is considering the purchase of a multimillion-dollar digital press.
This is a terrific service that's now available to the industry. Proven science that can accurately benchmark either offset of digital press performance.
