Wow! Another year is coming to a close. 2016 was quite a year for innovation and new developments on both the digital print and finishing side. But we’re about to jumpstart 2017 with Hunkeler's bi-annual Innovationdays in February. Unique among the various print trade shows and vendor-sponsored gatherings, Innovationdays is largely a finishing-centric showcase. And not just finishing, but digital finishing.
This makes it a very valuable addition to the print industry trade show route. And that’s also why it’s very well-attended. Printers exploring a move to digital must think through both the print and finishing process. And in Lucerne, Switzerland, they will find many examples of state-of-the art digital finishing systems. It's a venue where machinery runs on the show floor. I’ve always disliked video presentations, and have found them to be a poor substitute for actually laying hands on a piece of machinery to see how it works.
With many vendors, the complete digital print and finishing line are integrated and running, which is even better from the standpoint of the visitor. The digital-only focus enables you to spend adequate time with each vendor and to go in-depth in evaluating each system.
The event has also become noted for new product launches, which makes it even more interesting. In any event, it’s worth making the trip to snowy Switzerland. There is a lot of thought and effort put into this event, and you won’t be disappointed.
