Let me guess. You’ve read recent posts about planning for 2021. You must do it now. It needs to be strategic and smart and well thought out. Many of us have given you templates, checklists, infographics and offered time to get you started.
Still nothing.
Nada.
I get it.
You may not be able to wrap you head around where marketing comes into play.
And it’s time consuming.
And there are hundreds of other excuses, or let’s say, reasons not to start.
So how about this. Don’t plan for 2021.
‘Tis the Season
It’s that time of the year where we (used to) gather and spend more social time with customers and prospects. Perhaps dinners, open houses, happy hours. These in-person functions are not happening this year.
Now you’re thinking, “How will I engage with customers? Thank them for their business?”
You have a seasonal appropriate opportunity, starting this month, to connect with your customers. Re-engage with them. Ask questions about their business. What are their day to day issues, when do they use competitive products and services and why? You may find that they just aren’t aware of your complete offerings.
***Bonus suggestion, do the same for your prospects.
This may be new for you and your business. Here are a few tips to get started:
- Create a list of customers, prospects, AND end users.
- Create a list of questions that you plan to ask each customer.
- Create a concise talk track.
- Probe deeper into responses for clarity.
- Thank them for their time.
Oh, what you’ll discover
I bet you’ll uncover remarkable information that you may not have known before this season. And remember, don’t use the newly found insight to your company’s benefit. Sit on that data, don’t strategize, plan, or take control.
Or … when you find that you have great feedback and would like direction and expertise to help you begin a path to marketing, reach out to the folks that shared those templates, checklists, infographics and offered time to help your business define a plan to grow.
