Depending on who you listen to, Woody Allen is quoted as saying, “80% of life is just showing up.” Those words have been changed over the years. I’ve heard 80%, I’ve heard 50%, and I’ve heard 90%. Moreover, “life” became “success.”

I need to get some tile work done at my house. A local retail store gave me a list of 20 contractors to call to do the installation. So, I started dialing …
Back in July, I called the first seven names. I left seven voicemail messages. I got zero callbacks. I called all seven names again. I left seven voicemail messages. I got one callback.
Steve, the soul respondent, promised to reach out in September and come take a look at what we need. I have called him five times this month. I got his voicemail five times.
No Steve.
This past Saturday, I started calling from the bottom of the list. Call #1 went to voicemail. Call #2 resulted in an actual conversation. The gentleman I spoke with was polite and very grateful for my call and my time. He thanked me twice.
He showed up.
Romiero is stopping by this week to have a look and give me a price. What he doesn’t know is, the job is already his.
Why? Because he showed up.
Look, I don’t know if this guy is any good, but I do know he responds to my call, showed gratitude, and as such has differentiated himself already.
