On a recent Saturday night, my wife and I sat outside around supper time, each enjoying our adult beverage of choice.
Allison drank red wine.
I reached for my favorite Japanese whiskey.
As anyone who has had a drink on an empty stomach will tell you, the alcohol can hit you pretty quickly and as anyone who has had even a little whiskey will tell you, that hit can be quite a wallop.
We finished our drinks and headed inside to start dinner.
On the way, I received an email that absolutely set me off. It was the latest in a series of repetitive messages from a fellow member of a local tennis club where we belong. What got me angry was not the message itself but rather the repetitive part.
I almost always get the message the first time and to repeat yourself to me is ill-advised.
Deciding I had endured enough of his badgering, I pulled out my computer and spit out a reply.
A few days later, I would hear Ray Titus (Signarama, Fully Promoted et al) make a suggestion that all angry emails should be filtered through ChatGPT. “Let AI take the edge off and get the message across,” he said.
Great. Now you tell me, Ray!
Fortunately for me, my wife asked that I send her the email before I hit the Reply button.
Allison is my AI.
But Ray’s advice is good and I encourage you to follow it…unless Allison is nearby.
