Monty Python doesn't care whether you think their comedy is funny.
They didn't write it for you.
The Three Stooges never used a focus group.
They didn't care.
The creators of Looney Toons were once interviewed and asked, “Did you write for children or adults?” Predictably, Chuck Jones responded for Fritz Freleng when he said:
“Neither. We wrote for ourselves.”
Whether you are writing a blog or posting on LinkedIn, don't make the mistake of trying to please others. And don't make the mistake of thinking no one cares about your story.
They do.
Speak your mind. Tell others what you're going through and what you think. Share a personal anecdote. Invite people into your world.
Ink and toner magically sticking to substrate is not interesting, but you are. What you do with print’s vast capabilities can be fascinating, but personalize it.
The goal of a good blog or LinkedIn post is to connect. That happens best when you write from the heart.
