As you probably know, March was Women’s History Month, and a tiny fragment of our industry acknowledged that in any meaningful way.
But over at Girls Who Print, a group that began on LinkedIn 11 years ago and has grown to nearly 7,000 members worldwide, we were celebrating all month long, and here’s how.
Thirty-eight women shared their stories, experience and advice through our #PrintHERstoryMonth Q&A here at the Girls Who Print Blog. We asked them a series of questions aimed at helping other women in the industry benefit from the experiences of many of the most legendary and well regarded women in print. From Pat McGrew to V Carr to Marina Joyce and even Deb Corn and I, we all gained experience and knowledge simply by sharing and networking.
We also debuted a targeted podcast series; in one episode we featured Sandy Hubbard, who is truly a graphic arts and print national treasure. She recounted her annual Help Print Thrive road trips in which she selects a part of the country and visits printers, newspapers, libraries, and booksellers on a singular mission to keep print and ink on paper relevant today. Deb and I had some in depth discussions about creating content, marketing, and sales, and while they are hosted by two women, every PERSON in the industry could benefit from the wisdom shared.
We hosted a series of ZOOM calls each day near the end of the month as people scrambled to adjust to working remotely. Especially for many women who suddenly found themselves as home school teachers, as well as having to balance work and home and kids, it was a truly great space to share best practices and offer support, life hacks, and friendship. Those calls will continue each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and more information is available on the LinkedIn Group page to members only.
At Girls Who Print, we continue to grow our community and offer a place to network, share, and lift each other up. We are a serious group of women who want to invite others who seek to grow and share to join us. There is always room at our table.
