One of the more frustrating objections to hear is, "We already have a vendor." It's frustrating, because you want to be that vendor, of course. But it's also frustrating when a buyer or decision-maker is closed to the idea of seeing someone new.
Namely, you.
On my wish list is that every company that buys print, signage, labels, packaging, or promo has the following sign in their lobby.
I first saw this in Baltimore at a company called Victor Graphics. CEO Tom Hicks had a fiscally healthy attitude towards sales people who called on them.
Read the sign and see if you don’t agree.
Sales People Welcomed
You will receive courteous attention here, for we are mindful that our own sales people are making calls every day, seeking interviews and business just as you are. We are glad to have you call, because it is an important part of our business to keep in touch with new developments and changes in products and services. Can you tell us something new… Something we should know… Or show us how your goods or services can help us do a better job?
We shall keep you waiting no longer than is necessary. While here, please feel free to avail yourself of our facilities and telephones.
Thank you for coming to see us.
