Book Production: Planning in a Time of Uncertainty
Sponsored by: Canon Solutions America Matt Baehr, Executive Director, Book Manufacturers’ Institute and Brian O’Leary, Executive Director, Book Industry Study Group
Speakers:
What will 2024 look like for book printers in the North American market? As the last page on the calendar starts to turn, that's the question on the minds of both printers and publishers. In 2023, many printers saw something akin to a "soft landing", with reduced orders and an uncertain timeline for future work. Publishers reported struggling with higher costs for paper, printing, and distribution, and some market observers saw a return to offshore sourcing, after an onshoring trend took hold during the pandemic.
Join this session to hear from Matt Baehr, executive director of the Book Manufacturers' Institute, and Brian O'Leary, executive director of the Book Industry Study Group, about what they see coming in 2024. The pair will also share initiatives coming out of their respective member meetings around topics that include sourcing, the key ingredients of successful partnerships, sustainability, and how to move forward in a way that ensures both adequate capacity and effective business models for printed books.
